Reports of minor clashes between North and South Korea have been increasing recently.

A recent military incident occurred on the heavily fortified border between South and North Korea.

On Sunday, South Korean border guards fired warning shots when several North Korean soldiers briefly crossed the military demarcation line in the buffer zone between the two countries, according to the General Staff in Seoul.

The North Korean soldiers quickly withdrew without any unusual activities being detected.

South Korea's military believes the North Korean soldiers did not intentionally cross the line, suspecting it was accidental while performing unidentified work within the demilitarized zone.

But the top command stressed that the movements of the opposing side were being closely monitored.

According to the national news agency Yonhap, citing the General Staff, around 20 North Korean soldiers crossed the border line. Pyongyang has not provided further details about the circumstances of the border crossing.

Incidents at the sea and land borders are common, and both countries remain technically at war since the Korean War. Recently, tensions between the two sides have increased significantly.

In recent weeks, North Korea has sent over a thousand balloons filled with garbage across the border. These balloons included cigarette butts and toilet paper. Pyongyang claimed this was in response to balloons sent by South Korean activists containing leaflets critical of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and money for the impoverished population in the north.
