A daring "porch pirate" audaciously snatched a package directly from the hands of a bewildered FedEx delivery driver.
Security footage acquired by WRIC shows a man approaching the FedEx driver as she was walking toward a residence in Chesterfield, Virginia, carrying a package with an iPad inside.
In a brazen move, the thief grabs the package from her hands and dashes to his getaway vehicle—a white BMW.
Jessica Saenz, the homeowner, was working from home when the shocking theft occurred on Thursday. "I was in a meeting when the FedEx driver began pounding on my door," Saenz recounted to the media. "I wondered, 'What's happening?'"
The FedEx driver then informed Saenz about the stolen Apple device. Upon reviewing the security footage, Saenz discovered that the thief had falsely claimed to the FedEx worker that he lived at the address before making his bold move.
Johnny Eubanks, a neighbor, witnessed the incident while walking his dog. "It's quite astonishing. I've never seen anything like it. Usually, people are more discreet," he commented to WRIC. "People are getting increasingly desperate."
Local authorities are investigating the theft and have stated that the BMW seen in the video is suspected to have been involved in another recent robbery.
