Garth Brooks, often referred to as the "king" of country music, is facing serious allegations of sexual assault from his former stylist and makeup artist.
Incident from 2019
According to a complaint filed Thursday in a Los Angeles court, the incident allegedly occurred in 2019 when Brooks is accused of raping the woman in a hotel room in California.
The woman, whose identity is protected for her safety, has described the traumatic experience, stating that she contemplated suicide following the alleged assault, according to Hotnews.
She is represented in court by Douglas Wigdor, a well-known attorney recognized for his involvement in numerous high-profile sexual violence cases, particularly those emerging from the #MeToo movement.
Filed Defamation Lawsuit
Wigdor emphasized in a statement that the complaint reveals that "sexual predators" are not confined to corporate America, Hollywood, or the rap and rock-and-roll industries, but also exist within the country music realm.
In response to the allegations, Brooks filed a preemptive lawsuit in Mississippi earlier this month, claiming defamation and an attempt at extortion, asserting that the woman demanded several million dollars to prevent criminal charges from being filed against him.
At 62 years old, Brooks is a country music legend who gained fame in the 1990s. In 2015, he surpassed Elvis Presley as the solo artist with the most albums sold in the United States.
