Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. has identified and is fixing a bug that caused a major global IT outage.
The Incident
CrowdStrike Holdings Inc., whose software played a role in the global IT outage, has found the bug responsible for the disruption.
The company’s CEO, George Kurtz, announced the discovery and ongoing fix on the social media platform X.
“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers affected by a flaw discovered in one content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts were not affected. This was not a security incident or a cyber attack. The problem was identified, isolated, and its correction started," Kurtz wrote.
Company Response
Kurtz advised affected customers to check the customer support portal for the latest updates. CrowdStrike will continue to publish ongoing updates on its website.
He emphasized the importance of communicating with CrowdStrike representatives through official channels to ensure security and stability for their customers.
“Our team is fully mobilized to ensure the security and stability of CrowdStrike's customers," Kurtz added.
Impact of the Outage
The IT outage affected several Australian institutions, including major banks, media outlets, and airlines. The disruption also impacted operations at airports in the USA, Turkey, and Germany.
