The number of casualties from Israeli airstrikes on Beirut has climbed to 22, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. The strikes have also left 117 people injured.
CNN, citing Hezbollah sources, reported that Wafic Safa, a high-ranking figure in the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah movement, survived the attack.
Both Hezbollah sources and Israeli media suggest that Safa was the intended target of the strikes.
He is reportedly involved in smuggling operations and facilitating travel for Hezbollah members.
Since late September, Israel has intensified airstrikes on southern Lebanon and Beirut, targeting Hezbollah infrastructure. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have also conducted limited ground raids in the southern Lebanese border area.
In response, Hezbollah has launched daily rocket attacks on Israel.
As of 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, the IDF reported via Telegram that approximately 190 rockets had been fired from Lebanon into Israel within the last 24 hours.
