Time magazine has named U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as its "Person of the Year" for 2024.

This is the second time Trump has received the title. He first earned the distinction in 2016 following his initial election victory.

"All of us, from his most ardent supporters to his most vocal critics, are living in the Age of Trump," Time's editor-in-chief Sam Jacobs wrote in the announcement, as cited by Interfax.

Jacobs credited Trump with reshaping American politics, capitalizing on public frustration over economic challenges and a global wave of discontent with established governance.

Trump's 2024 campaign saw him make inroads among traditionally Democratic-leaning voter groups, particularly African Americans and Latinos. He became the first Republican candidate in 20 years to secure more votes than his Democratic rival. Jacobs noted this success stemmed from Trump's ability to harness populist sentiment and distrust of longstanding political institutions.

"Today we are witnessing a resurgence of populism, a growing distrust of the institutions that defined the last century, and an erosion of the belief that liberal values will lead to a better life for the majority," Jacobs added. "Trump is both a driver of this change and a beneficiary of it."

Last year, Time named singer-songwriter Taylor Swift its 2023 Person of the Year.
