The European Union has announced expanded sanctions on Belarus as part of its 16th package of restrictive measures targeting Russia, according to a statement from the European Commission on February 24, cited by Interfax.

The new sanctions mirror the trade restrictions imposed on Russia, adding economic pressure on Minsk for its continued support of Moscow’s war efforts in Ukraine.

The measures include bans on software and service sales, restrictions on cryptocurrency deposits and wallets, and limitations on transportation-related transactions.

Additionally, the EU has introduced a new criterion for sanctioning individuals and entities in Belarus, specifically targeting those who support or benefit from the country’s military-industrial complex.
