Despite Trump's rhetoric and past statements, the U.S. is unlikely to abandon Ukraine.

Dr. Krzysztof Winkler, an international relations expert from the Warsaw Enterprise Institute, has voiced strong confidence that a potential victory for Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election would not result in a "deal" that sacrifices Ukraine.

Maintain a Similar Position

According to SE Winkler's remarks come amid ongoing debates about Biden's health and his recent decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

Winkler emphasized that despite Trump's rhetoric and past statements, the U.S. is unlikely to abandon Ukraine or significantly alter its support for the country in the conflict with Russia.

He explained that both President Biden and former President Trump have maintained similar positions on NATO and military support, with Trump known for his blunt approach but not diverging drastically in policy.

A Continued Commitment

The expert noted that recent bipartisan support in the U.S. Congress for military aid to Ukraine reflects a continued commitment that is expected to persist regardless of who wins the presidency.

While Trump’s campaign promises to end the conflict quickly are seen as largely rhetorical, the substantial aid already allocated and the strategic interests involved suggest that a significant shift in U.S. policy is unlikely.

Winkler also touched on the broader implications for NATO and U.S. foreign policy, suggesting that while Trump's approach might emphasize different alliances or pressures, it would not equate to abandoning Ukraine or reversing the support provided thus far.
