Finland has announced a new military aid package for Ukraine worth €200 million ($217.4 million), focusing on delivering more artillery ammunition, which Ukraine urgently needs in its fight against Russia.
This is Finland’s 28th aid package since the full-scale invasion began, according to a statement released by the Finnish Defense Ministry on March 13.
“There is broad political support and national agreement on helping Ukraine,” said Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen, as cited by the Kyiv Independent.
During a visit to Helsinki, Ukraine’s Defense Minister Rustem Umerov met with Häkkänen to discuss deeper military cooperation.
The two signed a memorandum of understanding, agreeing to work together in several areas, including:
Ammunition production
Sharing intelligence
Defense technology
Military equipment supply
The goal is to support Ukraine both now and in the future by building stronger ties between their defense industries.
This latest support comes at a time when U.S. President Donald Trump has been calling on European countries to take more responsibility for Ukraine’s security. Trump has also paused U.S. intelligence sharing and military aid to Ukraine, putting more pressure on Europe to fill the gap.
Despite this, Finland has continued to step up. On February 26, it announced another major aid package worth €660 million ($691 million), which included equipment made in Finland.
With this latest package, Finland’s total military support for Ukraine now stands at €2.5 billion ($2.6 billion) since 2022.
Finland, which joined NATO in 2023, has become one of Ukraine’s most reliable partners in Europe.
