Finnish authorities are investigating reports of drone activity near an explosives manufacturing facility operated by defense company Nammo, Finnish media outlet Yle reported on February 11.
The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation has launched a probe into the sightings, which occurred near Nammo’s Vihtavuori plant, located in southern Finland near Jyväskylä.
Officials have not disclosed further details, citing the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation.
Nammo, a Norwegian-Finnish defense contractor, is a major supplier of ammunition and explosives to European and NATO forces. This makes the facility a potential target for espionage or sabotage attempts.
This follows a separate incident where the German military detected drones over its North Sea air base, where Ukrainian forces were undergoing Patriot air defense system training.
Between January 2025 and now, a total of six drone-related incidents have been recorded. Attempts were made to neutralize the drones, but they were unsuccessful.
Similar surveillance activities have been documented since October 2022, with initial responses limited to electronic countermeasures, including HP 47 portable jammer guns used by local police.
