The CIA plays a critical role in gathering intelligence and protecting national security.
As one of the most secretive organizations in the world, it enforces strict confidentiality rules.
When classified information is leaked, it can create serious risks for both national defense and diplomatic relations.
Asif Rahman, a former CIA analyst, has pleaded guilty to leaking classified documents.

The documents refer to events regarding Israel’s military plans against Iran, and included satellite image analyses from U.S. federal agencies.
The leaked documents were shared on Telegram, according to Digi24.
Rahman, who began working for the CIA in 2016, was arrested by the FBI in Cambodia on November 12. His guilty plea was entered in a federal court in Virginia on January 17.
The leaked documents revealed details about Israel’s response to an Iranian missile attack in October.
Iran launched about 200 missiles at Israel, claiming it was in retaliation for earlier Israeli strikes.
Those strikes allegedly targeted a Hezbollah leader in Lebanon and a high-ranking Iranian general. Additionally, Israel was accused of assassinating Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Rahman is now facing two charges for illegally retaining and transmitting classified national defense information.
Each charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, meaning he could face up to 20 years. His sentencing is set for May 15.
U.S. officials strongly condemned Rahman’s actions.
Matthew Olsen, the U.S. Assistant Attorney General for National Security, stated that Rahman "betrayed the trust of the American people" by unlawfully sharing classified material.
This case has raised concerns about security within intelligence agencies. While the CIA is tasked with protecting the country from external threats, breaches from within can create significant challenges.
