French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has issued a strong response to statements by incoming U.S. President Donald Trump about Greenland. Barrot emphasized that the European Union will not allow anyone to challenge the sovereignty of its borders.

Jean-Noël Barrot declared:

"It is absolutely not an option for the European Union to allow other countries in the world to attack its sovereign borders, whoever they may be. We are a strong continent."

On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated late last year that ownership and control of Greenland are "critical" for U.S. interests.

During a press conference on Tuesday, Trump said he could not rule out the use of economic or military coercion to gain control of the Panama Canal and Greenland.
