On October 9, the French-German defense company KNDS shared the news on the social media platform X.

The trials, which involved live firing, were conducted at the Ustka training ground in Poland. During the tests, KNDS France demonstrated the key combat capabilities of the 155 mm Caesar howitzer, including its long-range firing ability.

The 8x8 Caesar self-propelled howitzer, fully equipped with artillery ammunition, achieved a firing range of over 42 kilometers.

The official purpose behind the tests in Poland has yet to be disclosed.

It was recently revealed that the European defense consortium KNDS secured a contract in early October to supply 12 Caesar self-propelled artillery units to Ukraine. This information was announced by French Minister of the Armed Forces, Sébastien Lecornu, during an industrial forum in Kyiv.

According to Lecornu, the contract is funded by Ukrainian resources, although he did not provide further specifics.

Artillery Coalition In January 2024, Sébastien Lecornu and his Ukrainian counterpart, Rustem Umerov, established an international artillery coalition to support Ukraine. As part of this French-led initiative, 78 Caesar howitzers are set to be purchased for Ukraine’s Armed Forces, with production expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

France has already funded the production of 12 units, committing 50 million euros, while Ukraine has financed six additional units.
