A fire broke out in the Seliger City residential complex in northern Moscow late on September 30, killing one person and injuring two others, including a child.

Meduza reports that the blaze spread across multiple apartments, from the fifth to the eighth floors of the complex.

The fire was contained within an hour, according to the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

The fire engulfed an area of about 100 square meters, and emergency services rescued five people from the building. The body of the deceased was discovered during post-fire debris clearing.

The Moscow Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case for causing death by negligence.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have been triggered by an explosion of gas cylinders stored in one of the apartments on the fifth floor. These cylinders were reportedly intended for installing a suspended ceiling.

Videos shared by local Telegram channels showed explosions and captured one of the gas cylinders being thrown into the street. Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple blasts.

In a desperate attempt to escape, one resident jumped out of a window and was caught by neighbors using blankets and mattresses, though he suffered several fractures.
