Hungary's Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has called the European Union's sanctions policy against Russia a "total failure."

Speaking on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Szijjarto argued that the sanctions have not brought the conflict in Ukraine any closer to resolution and have caused significant damage to European economies.

"It is so obvious—we have suffered from skyrocketing inflation and rapidly rising energy prices," Szijjarto said, as quoted by a TASS correspondent.

He emphasized that both issues are direct results of the sanctions, which he claims have had a more severe impact on Europe than on Russia.

Szijjarto also pointed out the hypocrisy of some Western nations and companies, stating that many are circumventing the very sanctions they imposed.

"It's hypocritical, it's senseless, and it has failed," he concluded, stressing that the sanctions have not achieved their intended goals.
