Jordan Chiles, the American gymnast who initially finished fifth in the Olympic floor exercise final at Paris 2024, will retain her bronze medal following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Scoring Discrepancies

According to Digi24 this decision was made after a series of appeals and adjustments to the final standings.

The controversy erupted when the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) revised the results due to scoring discrepancies, leading to Romanian gymnast Ana Maria Bărbosu being promoted from fourth to third place.

Despite this adjustment, Chiles, who was initially placed fifth, will keep her bronze medal, as confirmed by USA Today Sports reporter Christine Brennan.

In a separate ceremony, Ana Maria Bărbosu received the bronze medal. She expressed a positive outlook despite the adjustments, stating:

"I am happy for this medal, but I hope it will also be a happy conclusion for the other gymnasts."

Her comments reflect a spirit of sportsmanship and an understanding of the broader implications for all competitors.

The CAS decision means that while Bărbosu was formally awarded the bronze, Chiles retains her medal from the award ceremony.
