On the same day the Paris Olympics were inaugurated, French train services faced extensive sabotage targeting the high-speed network. Multiple locations were hit with threats of arson and cyber attacks, which led to disruptions of traffic and delays for thousands of travelers.

According to Nyheterna 4, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has indicated that left-wing extremists are believed to be behind the attack.

"The aim was to paralyze train traffic," Darmanin told France 2 television channel, though the exact motive remains unclear.

Despite the extensive damage, repair work has been swift.

French Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete confirmed that train services were back to normal by Monday morning.

"I can confirm that all the trains are circulating normally," Vergriete stated.
