Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has confirmed that Moscow and Washington are maintaining diplomatic contacts through their respective foreign ministries. However, no further details were disclosed.
According to Ryabkov, there are currently no scheduled meetings between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump. He suggested that discussions could take place as the situation evolves.
Speaking to journalists in Moscow on February 10, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated his previous statement regarding a potential conversation between Putin and Trump.
“I have nothing to add. I cannot confirm or deny this,” Peskov said.
Trump, addressing reporters aboard Air Force One on February 9, stated that the United States is making progress but declined to provide details about any discussions with Putin.
“I don’t want to talk about conversations,” he said.
When asked whether he had spoken with Putin since taking office on January 20, Trump responded: “Let’s just say I have… And I expect many more conversations. We need to end this war [Russia’s war against Ukraine].”
The last confirmed conversation between Putin and a U.S. president took place in February 2022, shortly before Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Trump has previously expressed his intention to help end the war and suggested he would meet with Putin to discuss the issue. However, no official details regarding a potential summit have been released.
