Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah recently issued a stark warning to Israel, threatening a very costly war without limits, if the situation at the Lebanon-Israel border escalates into full-scale conflict. This statement according to JNS, came in the wake of the targeted killing of Hamas deputy leader Saleh al-Arouri in Beirut, an act attributed to Israel.
Nasrallah's speech underscored a shift in Hezbollah's strategy, from controlled engagements on the Israel-Lebanon front to potentially unrestrained warfare if Israel were to launch an offensive against Lebanon. He emphasized the grave cost of such a war, indicating that Hezbollah would engage relentlessly if national interests were threatened.
The situation is further complicated by the recent strike in Dahiya, a Hezbollah stronghold in Beirut, which resulted in the death of six Hamas operatives, including al-Arouri. Nasrallah condemned the assassination and vowed that the crime would not go unpunished, promising more details about the response in a subsequent address.
'The readiness is at its peak'
This strike, the first in the Lebanese capital attributed to Israel since the 2006 Second Lebanon War, has heightened tensions in the region.
Additionally, an Israeli airstrike reportedly killed senior Hezbollah official Hussein Yazbek, who oversaw operations in southern Lebanon's Naqoura area.
Three other Hezbollah members, identified as Ibrahim Fahs, Hossein Ghazala, and Hadi Reda, were also killed in the same strike. This incident further illustrates the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, with Hezbollah claiming responsibility for 11 operations against Israel in the past day.
Amid these developments, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi conducted a situational assessment on the northern front with other military commanders. He expressed confidence in the IDF's readiness, stating, "We are in a state of very strong readiness in the north... The readiness is at its peak." Halevi also highlighted that the IDF is well-prepared across all sectors and is currently focused on combating Hamas.
