NATO has increased the security level at its air base in Heilenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, to "Charlie," signaling a higher threat level.
This step was taken due to intelligence reports suggesting a possible security threat, according to a report by Ukrinform via FAZ.
A spokesperson for the airbase mentioned that the decision was made as a precautionary measure based on information about a potential threat.
Although the details of the threat have not been disclosed, the increase in the security level is meant to ensure the safety of those at the base.
Local police have confirmed that they are involved in addressing the situation.
In NATO terms, the "Charlie" security level means there has been an incident or there is credible evidence of a likely terrorist act against the Alliance.
In related news, Finland has decided to station a NATO armored brigade of 4,000-5,000 troops near its border with Russia to strengthen its defenses against potential threats.
