North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles from its east coast on Thursday, according to the South Korean military. The missiles fell into the Sea of Japan.
According to a news report by Kurier, this is North Korea's first missile launch in over two months.
The Japanese coast guard confirmed that one missile, believed to be from North Korea, had landed in the sea.
There is no reports of damage, as stated by the Kyodo news agency.
North Korea's last missile launch occurred on July 1, when it claimed to have successfully tested a new tactical ballistic missile capable of carrying a 4.5-ton warhead.
The country remains under international sanctions for its nuclear weapons program and is prohibited by UN resolutions from launching or testing ballistic missiles.
Tensions on the Korean peninsula have been escalating.
In the past two years, North Korea has increased its missile tests and ramped up hostile rhetoric against the U.S. and South Korea. Military cooperation between North Korea and Russia has also been on the rise.
