A North Korean soldier captured by Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces in Russia’s Kursk region has revealed startling details about his deployment, claiming he was unaware of whom he would be fighting.
The revelation came in a video shared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on January 20, featuring a Security Service of Ukraine officer interviewing the captured soldier.
The soldier, who allegedly served in a reconnaissance battalion, stated that some of his comrades had been trained to operate heavy Russian military equipment, although he himself had not received such training.
"I didn’t know before coming to Russia that I would be fighting here, in Russia. And I didn’t even know who we were fighting against," the soldier admitted.
When questioned about his knowledge of the world beyond North Korea, the prisoner of war (POW) confessed, “Not much.”
Regarding South Korea, he remarked only that “it has fewer mountains than North Korea.”
This interview follows reports from January 13 indicating that North Korean troops stationed in Russia’s Kursk region have allegedly been ordered to commit suicide rather than risk being captured by Ukraine’s Armed Forces. This was reported by United24 Media.
