Eighteen North Korean soldiers who attempted to flee Russian positions in the Kursk region have been captured and are now expected to be deployed in assaults against Ukraine.
This was reported by the Ukrainian outlet RBC, citing sources from Ukraine’s special services on October 21.
The soldiers were caught by Russian forces in the Komarichsky district of Bryansk region after escaping from a wooded area near Kolyachki, Kursk Oblast, where they had been stationed.
Initially, around 40 North Korean military instructors were training alongside approximately 50 Russian soldiers in the area.
After completing their training, the North Korean soldiers were reportedly left in the forest without food or clear orders.
On October 14, some of them decided to leave their posts to search for their Russian commanders. Two days later, on October 16, they were apprehended about 60 kilometers from where they had attempted to escape.
Sources revealed that all 40 North Korean soldiers in Kursk Oblast have now been transferred to the Lgovsky district, where they are expected to participate in assault operations against Ukrainian forces.
This incident follows earlier reports from South Korean intelligence that a North Korean missile engineer was involved in the launch of ballistic missiles targeting Ukraine.
