On January 15, two Norwegian F-35 fighter jets were deployed to protect Polish airspace in response to Russian aircraft involved in attacks on Ukraine, according to a statement from NATO Air Command.

This is the first time Norwegian jets have been operationally deployed to protect Poland’s skies.

The NATO statement confirmed, “Yesterday, two Norwegian F-35s stationed in Poland were launched in response to a significant number of Russian aircraft.”

Specific details of the Russian activity have not been disclosed.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk had earlier warned of Russia’s broader intentions, stating that Moscow aims to conduct terrorist attacks not only against Poland but also targeting global airlines.
