The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, arrived in the Chinese capital of Beijing on Monday after discussions with Russian leader Vladimir Putin last Friday.
He announced his visit on the social media platform X, describing it as "Peace Mission 3.0" and using the hashtag "Beijing."
Diplomatic Agenda in China
Chinese state media confirmed Orbán's arrival, reporting that he is scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
"The peace mission of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán continues," stated government spokesperson Bertalan Havasi in an interview with the Hungarian state news agency MTI.
Orbán's visit to China follows his trip to Moscow, where he discussed his plans discreetly, keeping them hidden from Western allies until the last moment.
Accordig to Reuters, Orbán promised more "unexpected meetings" in the near future.
Last-Minute Cancellations
In related news, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjarto, canceled a planned meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock at the last minute.
The meeting, which was supposed to take place in Budapest on Monday, was canceled on Friday for "technical reasons," according to the Hungarian government.
