Donald Trump has a lot to say when it comes to the NFL.
President Donald Trump sharply criticized NFL teams on Friday after Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders went undrafted during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Shedeur, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, was widely projected as a first-round pick throughout the pre-draft process.
However, he was notably absent from the first 32 selections made on Thursday night, with quarterbacks Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart being chosen instead.
Taking to TruthSocial, Trump expressed his frustration over Sanders’ snub, calling out NFL team owners and praising the young quarterback’s pedigree.
“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” Trump wrote. “Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness. He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”
Heading into the draft, Sanders was widely expected to be the second quarterback selected after Cam Ward, who went first overall to the Tennessee Titans.
Several teams with quarterback needs — including the New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders, and New Orleans Saints — passed on Sanders, opting for other prospects. The Pittsburgh Steelers, another team linked to Sanders, also chose a different direction.
The Giants later traded back into the first round but selected quarterback Jaxson Dart instead of Sanders.
Attention then went to the second round where the Cleveland Browns, who had the first and fourth pick, landed Sanders.
