Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has alerted his nation to brace for intensified Russian assaults on infrastructure with the approach of winter.

According to Independent, this caution comes in the wake of renewed missile strikes on Kyiv, the first in about seven weeks.

In his nightly video address, Zelensky emphasized the need for preparedness against potential increases in drone and missile attacks targeting Ukraine's infrastructure.

He recalled the previous winter, nearly ten months into Russia's invasion, when Russia launched a series of attacks on power stations and other energy-related facilities. These attacks resulted in widespread rolling blackouts across various regions.

The warning from Zelensky coincides with a noticeable escalation in Russian military efforts, particularly around Bakhmut. According to the head of Ukraine's ground forces, Russian troops are intensifying their offensive to reclaim territories near this strategic location.

Despite this, Ukrainian forces have achieved significant gains, having recaptured key positions around Bakhmut and advancing in the city's western, northern, and southern areas since the commencement of Kyiv's summer counteroffensive.

Zelensky's message underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine as it continues to defend against Russian aggression. The situation remains fluid, with both sides engaging in a tug-of-war over strategic territories, and the Ukrainian populace bracing for a winter that could bring more than just cold weather.
