Russia's President Vladimir Putin has resolved to contend in the forthcoming March presidential elections, signaling an extension of his tenure potentially until 2030.

According to Reuters, this decision arrives amid what Putin perceives as a historically critical juncture for Russia, according to six anonymous sources in conversation with Reuters.

At 71, Putin, who first assumed the presidency from Boris Yeltsin in 1999, has already surpassed the length of service of any Russian leader post-Josef Stalin.

His candidacy, backed by robust state apparatus, state media, and the absence of significant public opposition, virtually assures his victory in an electoral process viewed by many as a mere formality.

Kremlin insiders relay that Putin's election preparations are underway, following internal confirmation of his intent to run.

These plans coincide with Putin's robust approval ratings within Russia, often cited around 80%. A public hint of his candidacy is anticipated soon, echoing a recent report from the Kommersant newspaper.

Despite the lack of formal announcement, speculation has been rife among diplomats and intelligence circles that Putin would maintain his grip on power indefinitely.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, while declining specific comment, had previously indicated that Putin would be an unmatched candidate if he chose to run.
