At least eight people were injured in a Ukrainian missile attack on the Russian city of Belgorod on the morning of September 16, according to Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov. This development was covered by the Kyiv Independent.
One of the victims is reportedly in critical condition, while the others suffered moderate injuries, as shared on his Telegram channel.
Belgorod is located near Ukraine's border and the city is often used by Russia as a base for strikes against Ukrainian territory.
Gladkov claimed that one house was completely destroyed, and 15 cars caught fire due to a direct hit. Additionally, the facades of 21 apartment buildings and four other houses were allegedly damaged, along with a gas pipeline.
In the nearby village of Dubovoe, south of Belgorod, an apartment building, house, and garage were reportedly damaged by the attack, according to local officials.
Ukraine has not commented on the attack, and the Kyiv Independent has not been able to verify all of the claims.
Local Telegram channels have circulated footage showing burning cars and damaged buildings, but the full extent of the damage remains unclear.
Belgorod Oblast, which borders Ukraine’s Sumy, Kharkiv, and Luhansk oblasts, has frequently been a target of cross-border attacks throughout the ongoing war. Russian authorities have regularly accused Ukraine of launching strikes against the region, with the city of Belgorod itself being struck on multiple occasions.
Recently, there have been numerous reports of clashes in the region, particularly in the neighboring Kursk Oblast, amid Ukraine’s continued cross-border incursions.
