A Russian military drone crash in Latvia has sparked calls for a collective NATO response.

After a Russian military drone crashed in Latvia's Rēzekne region on September 7, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs called for a unified NATO response.

In a statement posted on social media, Rinkēvičs emphasized the increasing frequency of such incidents along NATO’s eastern flank and the need to address these threats collectively.

"We are in close contact with our allies," Rinkēvičs assured, confirming that an investigation is ongoing.

Latvia's Ministry of Defense reported that the drone likely entered Latvian airspace from Belarus.

According to the Ministry, this is the first Russian military UAV incursion into Latvia since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began. Defense officials have informed NATO and local authorities, with further investigations underway.

Latvia's Defense Minister Andris Spruds has called for heightened security measures along the country’s eastern border, including the strengthening of air defense systems and electronic warfare capabilities to protect Latvian airspace from future threats.

This incident coincides with a spike in Russian drone activity across the region, with Romania also reporting similar airspace violations earlier that day.
