On October 28, Russian forces launched a heavy strike on the Kharkiv region, targeting multiple districts in Kharkiv city and the nearby city of Chuhuiv.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES), the attack injured at least 21 people, including five children. It also led to substantial damage to residential infrastructure in Shevchenkivskyi, Saltivskyi, and Kholodnogirskyi districts.
In the Kholodnogirskyi district, rescue teams are still on the ground after a high-rise residential building was hit, damaging the structure between the eighth and ninth floors and destroying three apartments.
The city’s mayor confirmed that seven people, including a 16-year-old girl, were injured in this district alone.
The strikes also damaged 21 houses, four vehicles, and destroyed one utility building in various parts of the city.
As emergency responders continue rescue operations, the SES is assessing the full scope of the destruction. The attacks on residential areas underscore the continued vulnerability of civilians in Kharkiv, a frontline city that has faced repeated bombardment since the beginning of the conflict.
This attack follows a recent "double tap" strike by Russian forces in Ukraine's Mykolaiv region, which targeted first responders and killed one civilian.
