Saudi Arabia has executed six Iranian citizens convicted of attempting to smuggle drugs into the country, prompting strong protests from Iran's Foreign Ministry.
According to CNN Türk, the Saudi Ministry of Interior confirmed the executions, stating that the suspects were detained, found guilty in court, and subsequently sentenced to death.
The sentences have now been carried out.
In response, Iran's Foreign Ministry summoned Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Tehran, Abdullah bin Saud Al-Anazi, delivering a formal and strongly worded protest over the executions.
The executions come just months after Saudi Arabia and Iran restored diplomatic ties following a seven-year hiatus.
In September 2023, the two nations exchanged ambassadors, marking a significant step toward improving relations.
