South Korea has expanded its sanctions against Russia and Belarus, adding 243 more high-tech products to the list of goods prohibited for export to both countries.
This was reported by Yonhap, as referenced by Ukrinform.
The newly banned items include products that could be used for military purposes, such as metal-cutting machines, parts for machine tools, optical instruments, and electronic sensors.
Starting on Monday, September 9, the total number of items banned from export to Russia and Belarus will rise to 1,402, up from the current 1,159.
The South Korean Ministry of Trade mentioned that there may be some exceptions for exporting these banned goods to Russia and Belarus. Each exception request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the government.
In addition to expanding the list of banned goods, South Korea is also increasing penalties for those who break export control rules. New regulations will impose stricter penalties for repeat offenders.
These changes will take effect on September 9.
The South Korean government is also stepping up efforts to prevent illegal exports and smuggling of strategic goods to countries under sanctions.
As reported by Ukrinform, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently approved sanctions against companies and individuals supporting Russia’s aviation industry, adding to the international effort to isolate Russia.
