Tesla, the electric vehicle company led by Elon Musk, has been ordered by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to update potentially faulty software in over 1.8 million vehicles.

According to 20minutes this action follows concerns about a risk of accidental hood opening, which could lead to increased accident risks.

Inadvertent Hood Opening Risk

The issue came to light on March 25th, when Tesla began investigating customer complaints regarding the unexpected opening of the hood in certain Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in China.

According to the NHTSA, Tesla discovered a deformation in the hood latch switch by mid-April. This defect could prevent drivers from receiving alerts about an unsecured hood.

Driving with an unsecured hood poses significant dangers, as the hood could fly open while the vehicle is in motion, obstructing the driver's view and potentially causing accidents.

As a result, Tesla is required to implement an over-the-air software update to address this issue.

The recall affects nearly 1.85 million vehicles, including Model S and Model X vehicles manufactured since 2021, and Model 3 and Model Y vehicles produced since 2020.
