Social media has reshaped the way people communicate, share content, and grow businesses.
Platforms like TikTok have become a central part of online culture, especially for younger generations.
Millions of users rely on the app for entertainment, while influencers and companies use it to reach audiences.
Any disruption to its availability would have a major impact.
Close Down By Sunday
TikTok has warned that it could become unavailable in the United States on Sunday unless the Biden administration provides assurances to companies like Apple and Google.
These tech companies need confirmation that they will not face penalties for continuing to support the app once the ban is enforced, according to Digi24.
This warning came shortly after the Supreme Court upheld a law requiring TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell the platform.
Without a sale, the app could be banned due to national security concerns.
The court’s 9-0 ruling has left TikTok’s 170 million U.S. users uncertain about the app’s future.
The situation has now drawn attention to Donald Trump, who has promised to prevent the app from shutting down once he returns to office on Monday.
TikTok stated that unless Biden’s administration issues a clear statement ensuring that the ban will not be enforced, the app will be forced to go offline on January 19. The White House has not responded.
Tech companies such as Apple, Google, and Oracle could face significant fines if they continue to provide services for TikTok after the ban is in place.
The law, which passed last year with strong bipartisan support, was signed by President Biden.
Recently, some lawmakers who backed the measure have changed their stance, arguing that TikTok should remain available in the U.S.
TikTok, ByteDance, and several of the app’s users challenged the law, arguing that it violates First Amendment rights. The Supreme Court ruled that the law does not restrict free speech.
ByteDance has made little effort to sell TikTok before the deadline. Trump, who previously attempted to ban the app in 2020, has now indicated that he wants to keep it running.
He also mentioned that he recently discussed TikTok with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
