Iranian hackers have recently targeted the email accounts of individuals close to President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and presidential candidate Donald Trump.
According to a report from Google, the hacking group APT42, also known as Charming Kitten or Mint Sandstorm, has been carrying out these cyberattacks since May.
The hackers are believed to be working on behalf of the Iranian government.
They attempted to access the personal emails of key figures in U.S. politics, including Roger Stone, a prominent Republican political consultant.
Google’s report reveals that at least one of these attacks successfully compromised the email account of a well-known political advisor.
APT42's methods involve sending phishing emails with malicious links or infected PDF attachments, making it difficult for users to detect the threat.
The FBI is currently investigating these incidents, with Trump’s team accusing the Iranian government of being behind the breaches.
