Donald Trump’s presidency from 2017 to 2021 was marked by significant policy changes, economic shifts, and international controversies.

His administration focused on deregulation, tax cuts, and reshaping trade agreements.

He appointed three Supreme Court justices, shaping the judiciary for decades.

His foreign policy included renegotiating NAFTA into the USMCA, withdrawing from international agreements, and attempting direct diplomacy with North Korea.

His presidency ended with a highly contested election and the events of January 6, 2021, which led to his impeachment for a second time.

Now, in his second term, Trump has begun issuing executive orders that align with his long-standing political views.

A Beautiful Fitting Name

One of his latest decisions is renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Denali Mountain.

A new executive order instructs federal agencies to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the "Gulf of America."

Trump announced this change during his inauguration speech, calling it a "beautiful and fitting name."

The order also restores the name "Mount McKinley" to the highest peak in North America, undoing Barack Obama’s 2015 decision to officially recognize it as Denali.

Mount McKinley was named in honor of President William McKinley, who was assassinated in 1901, according to Digi24.

Before that, the mountain had long been known as Denali by the Indigenous people of the region.

Obama’s decision to change the name was widely supported by Alaska’s government and Native American groups.

Trump, who has often expressed admiration for McKinley’s economic policies, has now reversed that decision.

The order directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to ensure the new names appear in all federal documents and maps. It does not impact how the names will be recognized internationally or at the state level.

The renaming of these landmarks is expected to be met with both support and opposition.

While Trump’s supporters view it as a move to reclaim American identity, critics argue that it disregards historical and cultural significance.

The decision adds to the list of executive actions Trump has taken since returning to office, signaling that his second term may continue the approach seen during his first presidency.
