Russia's average daily losses of soldiers killed and wounded in May and June 2024 reached the highest levels since the start of its war against Ukraine.
According to a new intelligence review by the UK's Ministry of Defense, Russia's daily casualties in May averaged 1,262.
In June, the average was 1,163.
This marks the highest daily losses Russia has experienced throughout the conflict.
Massive Casualties
Over the past two months, it is estimated that Russia has lost over 70,000 servicemen either killed or wounded.
Analysts attribute this increase to Russia opening a new front in the Kharkiv region while maintaining its offensive operations along the rest of the front.
Russian Struggles
"Although this new approach has increased pressure on the front, effective Ukrainian defenses and problems with the training of the Russian military reduce the ability of the Russian Federation to use any technical advances despite attempts to further stretch the front line," the review states.
The British Ministry of Defense predicts that Russian casualties will likely continue to exceed 1,000 per day over the next two months, as Russia persists in its massive offensive actions to capture Ukrainian positions.
Domestic Impact
British intelligence recently reported an increase in the frequency and effectiveness of Ukrainian attacks on Russia's Black Sea Fleet over the past year.
Additionally, they have analyzed the impact of the Kremlin's decision to bring universities under state control, which has affected the state of education in Russia.
The Ministry also noted that Russia is intensifying efforts to block VPN services and disable internet telephony to restrict citizens' access to information and enhance surveillance.
