British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said the UK is willing to send troops to Ukraine to help monitor a future peace agreement.

Speaking to The Telegraph, he acknowledged the risks but insisted that supporting Ukraine’s security is also crucial for Europe’s safety.

“I do not say this lightly. I feel a very deep sense of responsibility about the potential danger to British servicemen,” Starmer said. He made it clear that any lasting peace must prevent Russia from attacking again.

Starmer also suggested that Britain could act as a bridge between Europe and the US in any negotiations.

“These next few months will shape the future security of our continent,” he said, stressing that “peace comes through strength” and warning that weakness could lead to more war.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for 100,000 Western peacekeepers to help secure a ceasefire. However, Financial Times sources suggest that European countries might send only 40,000 to 50,000 troops.

According to AP, the UK, France, and other European nations are quietly discussing plans to send military personnel to Ukraine. The urgency has increased due to fears that US President Donald Trump could negotiate a deal with Russia that leaves Europe out.

Moscow has strongly opposed the idea of European peacekeepers in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov dismissed the proposal outright, while Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov later suggested that it "could be considered" in negotiations.
