Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed on October 10 that its forces successfully carried out a drone strike on Russia's Khanskaya military airfield in the Adygea Republic, located in the North Caucasus.

The strike, conducted with the assistance of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), military intelligence (HUR), and Special Operations Forces, targeted a key airbase used to support Russian operations.

This was reported by the Kyiv Independent.

Strike Details

The attack took place in the early hours of October 10.

According to Adygea authorities and the Russian Telegram channel Astra., explosions were heard near the airfield.

An SBU source stated that up to 57 aircraft were stationed at the airfield at the time of the strike, including Su-34 and Su-35 fighter jets, as well as Mi-8 helicopters.

The Ukrainian operation targeted an ammunition warehouse, igniting a large fire, which was captured in footage shared on social media.

Strategic Airfield

The Khanskaya airfield is located near Maykop, the capital of Adygea. It is home to Russia’s 272nd Training Aviation Regiment.

Positioned about 430 kilometers from the front lines in Ukraine, the airbase is used for refueling and launching airstrikes against Ukrainian military targets and population centers.

While Defense Express, citing satellite imagery from October 6, reported only 12 aircraft stationed at the airbase, the SBU source suggested the figure may have been higher, or additional aircraft may have arrived at the base in recent days.

Weakened Russian Air Capabilities

Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian airbases and military facilities as part of an effort to undermine Russia’s aerial superiority. .

In addition to the Khanskaya airfield attack, Ukrainian drones also struck a Shahed drone storage facility near the Russian city of Yeysk, resulting in several powerful explosions and a fire.
