Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has directed Ukraine’s Interior Minister and diplomats to develop a plan for sending Ukrainian firefighters to assist in battling the devastating wildfires in California.
Zelenskyy announced the initiative during his nightly address on January 12.
“The situation there is dire, and Ukrainians can help Americans protect lives. This is currently being worked out, and through the appropriate channels, we have offered our assistance to the American side. 150 of our firefighters are already prepared,” Zelenskyy said.
Earlier, Zelenskyy spoke with U.S. President Joe Biden, expressing solidarity amidst the California wildfires and commending the bravery of Americans working tirelessly to save lives and contain the fires.
