The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has strongly criticized Niger's decision to cut diplomatic ties with Ukraine.

According to United24 Media, Ukrainian officials are describing the move as a "gesture of 'solidarity' with those who chose the path of rapprochement with the Russian Federation."

In a statement issued on August 6, 2024, Ukraine rejected the accusations made by Niger’s government.

"The accusations against Ukraine made in the statement of the representative of the government of this country do not stand up to any criticism, are groundless and untrue," the statement asserted.

Ukraine firmly denied any involvement in supporting international terrorism or violating the UN Charter, calling these claims "baseless."

The Ministry suggested that Niger's decision was influenced by its closer alignment with Russia, which has been waging an unprovoked war against Ukraine for over two years.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed regret that Niger chose to end diplomatic relations without properly investigating the alleged incident in Mali or providing any evidence to support its claims.

Despite this setback, Ukraine reaffirmed its commitment to building positive relationships with all African countries based on equality, non-interference, and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Niger's decision follows a similar move by Mali earlier in the week, signaling a potential shift in regional diplomacy influenced by stronger ties with Russia.
