Ukraine is set to present the United States with a detailed list of potential targets within Russia for possible strikes using American long-range weapons.

This is part of Ukraine’s efforts to persuade the Biden administration to lift current restrictions on the use of these weapons for attacks inside Russian territory, according to a report from Politico citing anonymous sources.

The list is expected to be delivered by Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Andriy Yermak, Head of the President’s Office, during their upcoming visit to Washington.

This effort is viewed as a critical attempt to influence the US government’s stance, which has so far been cautious about allowing deeper strikes into Russian territory.

Previously, Ukraine has shared some target information with the US, but this new list is reportedly more comprehensive and specific. Kyiv hopes that by presenting these details, it can convince Washington that lifting the restrictions would have a strategic impact, despite US concerns that Russia has moved key assets away from the border.

US National Security Council and Pentagon officials have declined to comment on the report. However, current US policy permits Ukraine to carry out retaliatory strikes as part of its defense, especially in response to attacks from Russian border regions, including the Kursk Oblast.

Ukraine officials, including Andriy Yermak, continue to stress the importance of being able to strike deeper into Russian territory using Western-supplied weapons. Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has also signaled that Ukraine is preparing “responses” to ongoing Russian attacks.
