Ukrainian forces continue to hold their position at the Kurakhivska Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in Donetsk despite increased Russian efforts to capture the area.
Victor Tregubov, spokesperson for the ‘Khortytsia’ Operational-Strategic Group of Forces, shared the update on RBC on January 10.
“Russian forces are attempting to attack near Dachne and push Ukrainian troops out of Kurakhove,” Tregubov reported.
Tregubov emphasized that Ukrainian troops are not only maintaining control of this strategic power plant but are also inflicting heavy losses on the Russian forces.
“Our troops are doing everything possible in this area, destroying large amounts of enemy equipment,” he said.
Earlier, Ukrainian forces successfully repelled a Russian tank assault near the Kurakhove front. The 130th separate territorial defense battalion played a key role in halting a Russian armored column that attempted to breach defensive lines.
The Kurakhivska TPP has faced numerous challenges. After Russian forces destroyed the bridge used to deliver coal to the plant, operations were brought to a standstill. Parts from the power plant have since been dismantled to help repair other damaged energy facilities across Ukraine.
