The United States is building a military base near the city of Kobani (Ain al-Arab) in northern Syria as part of its support for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and their core group, the YPG, Sabah reported.

Local sources revealed that the US has relocated materials from a base in neighboring Iraq to Kobani, including concrete blocks and other supplies for constructing the new base.

Journalists in the area reported seeing 13 trucks carrying the materials, all flying US flags, arriving in the city.

In addition to the base, the US recently deployed Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and supplied air defense systems and armored vehicles to the Kurdish militia.

On December 1, the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) launched Operation Dawn of Freedom, aimed at removing Kurdish forces, including the PKK and YPG, from key areas like Tell Rifaat and Manbij in northern Aleppo.

While the SNA claims to have cleared Tell Rifaat, reports suggest ongoing clashes in Manbij.

Turkey considers the PKK and YPG terrorist groups and has warned of military action if Kurdish forces do not disband. Turkish officials have expressed confidence in the new Syrian administration, led by Ahmad al-Sharaa, to take action against these groups.

Despite Turkey’s threats, al-Sharaa, who heads the new Syrian administration, stated in an interview with Al Arabiya that talks are underway with the Kurdish-led SDF to integrate Kurdish forces into Syria’s national armed forces.

The goal, he said, is to create unity and stability in the region.
