Rain marred what was set to be a historic opening ceremony for the Olympic Games, and the weather continued to wreak havoc on the cycling events on Parisian streets.

According to Tag24 the spotlight fell on American cyclist Taylor Knibb (26) during Saturday’s time trial, as she experienced an agonizing series of mishaps. The slick, rain-slicked roads proved treacherous for the narrow tires of racing bikes, turning Knibb’s Olympic dreams into a nightmare.

At one point, Knibb, a triathlete competing in the time trial, held a promising position. However, her hopes of securing a medal evaporated in a matter of minutes. On a particularly slippery curve, her bike lost traction, sending her crashing to the ground. Despite her quick recovery and determination to continue, the challenges were far from over.

Incredibly, Knibb fell twice more within a span of just five minutes. After her first fall, she remounted her bike only to slide out again on a subsequent curve. Despite her resilience, the relentless rain caused her to slip a third time, resulting in another crash.

Determined not to let these setbacks defeat her, Knibb continued to fight through the adversity. However, her struggles were compounded when she encountered a technical issue with her bike shortly after her last fall. Forced to switch bikes, her hopes of a medal were dashed.

Despite the day's hardships, Knibb's perseverance and spirit were evident. Her experience underscores the unpredictable nature of the sport and the challenges athletes face in adverse conditions. The rain-soaked Parisian roads proved to be an unrelenting foe, ultimately derailing what could have been a memorable Olympic performance for the talented cyclist.
