According to Ziare the exercises will take place from July 15 to 24, announced the Armenian Ministry of Defense.

The exercise, named Eagle Partner 2024, will focus on peacekeeping missions, reflecting regular collaborative efforts with partner countries, as conveyed by the ministry in Yerevan.

Historically Close to Russia

Armenia, historically close to Russia in the South Caucasus region, has seen strained relations with Moscow in recent years. This deterioration stems from Armenia's perception that Russia failed to defend it against neighboring Azerbaijan, Reuters notes.

While Armenia remains a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a post-Soviet military alliance led by Russia, Armenian authorities have repeatedly stated their non-support for Moscow's actions in Ukraine. Armenia has even provided humanitarian aid to Kiev, actions that have angered Russia.

The upcoming joint exercises with the US underscore Armenia's efforts to diversify its military partnerships beyond traditional alliances, potentially reflecting a strategic shift amid regional geopolitical dynamics.
