The American State Department seems to have trouble with geography.
The blunder occurred in a post on X, where the American State Department sent Sweden on a brief vacation southward on the European map, directly north of Italy, no less.
The social media update was supposed to spotlight Secretary of State Antony Blinken's scheduled visit to French President Emmanuel Macron. Instead of diplomatic talks being the day's highlight, it was the geographical misplacement of Sweden that stole the show.
Positioned erroneously just north of Italy and east of France, Sweden was confused with Switzerland, leading to a mix of amusement and bewilderment among X users.
Recognizing the mistake, the Department of State promptly deleted the erroneous post. However, the internet's quick eyes and quicker screenshots ensured the blunder was immortalized.
Antony Blinken was in France to discuss, among other things, the situation in Ukraine, as well as the Israeli bombings in Gaza.
