A devastating fire at an oil depot in Proletarsk, located in Russia’s Rostov region, has been raging for five days following a drone attack.
The number of injured firefighters has now climbed to 47, according to Russian media Babel on Telegram.
Residents in the area are increasingly frustrated, accusing authorities of neglecting them and criticizing federal channels for their silence on the crisis.
The fire has created towering flames, reaching up to 10 meters high, while the air is thick with the smell of burning fuel and ash blankets the surroundings.
Satellite images released by Radio Svoboda show the extent of the destruction at the Rosrezerva oil depot.
According to OSINT analyst MT_Anderson, 14 fuel tanks were completely destroyed, 4 were partially damaged, and 16 remained intact. The fate of the remaining 44 tanks remains uncertain due to the heavy smoke that obscures them.
The incident began on the night of August 18, when Ukrainian intelligence and Armed Forces launched an attack on the “Kavkaz” plant in the Rostov region, targeting storage facilities used for Russian military fuel.
Reports indicate that five drones struck an enterprise in Proletarsk, igniting a massive fire in diesel fuel tanks.
In response, a state of emergency was declared in Proletarsk on August 19, with a high alert regime imposed in the surrounding district.
