Meteors often streak across the night sky, burning brightly before vanishing. Most never reach the ground, disintegrating as they pass through the atmosphere.

The ones that do survive and land on Earth are called meteorites.

Scientists estimate that over 40 tons of space debris fall to Earth daily, but most of it lands in the ocean or remote areas.

Direct encounters with meteorites are rare, making it unusual for one to be caught on camera.

Object Fell From the Sky

A couple in Charlottetown, Canada, experienced such an event firsthand, according to Digi24.

A security camera outside their home recorded the moment a meteorite crashed onto their driveway.

Laura Kelly and her partner had gone out for a walk, and when they returned, they found their driveway covered in dust and strange debris.

Unsure of what had happened, they checked the footage.

The video showed an object falling from the sky and striking the ground with force. A cloud of dust rose as the impact produced a loud cracking sound.

They reported the discovery to the University of Alberta’s Meteorite Reporting System. Chris Herd, a planetary materials expert, examined the debris and confirmed that it came from space.

Meteorites offer scientists valuable information about the early solar system.

These fragments originate from asteroids, comets, and other celestial bodies, often containing material that dates back billions of years.

Studying them helps researchers understand how planets and moons formed.

The meteorite, now named "Charlottetown" after the place where it landed, stands out because it was recorded on video.

While many meteors have been filmed as they pass through the sky, this may be one of the first instances where both the sound and impact were captured.

For Kelly and her partner, the experience was unexpected. Finding a piece of space on their doorstep was not something they ever imagined.

Now, they have both a unique story to tell and a reminder of the universe’s activity — right in their own backyard.
